What are Special Educational Needs?
Special Educational Needs is term that covers a wide range of reasons about why children need something additional and different provided for them to be able to access learning. This could be anything from a physical disability, a diagnosed medical condition, neurodiversity, speech and language issues, cognition and learning difficulties or social, emotional and mental health issues. Special Needs could present in a number of different ways, and there are often complexities when several things present at once. We acknowledge that every child is different, and our approach is to first understand the child, their life, their background and challenges, before then developing a bespoke support plan in partnership with the child and their family. For more information about specific conditions and how to support them, please visit our other SEND pages.
